Sybil Jane Barrido has established herself as an innovator in the design industry. For twenty years founder and principal designer at SJVD Design, Barrido specializes in Hospitality, Urban-reuse/Development, and Commercial/Residential projects. Sought after both nationally and internationally, Barrido’s design approach reflects extensive research in design management together with a sincere collaboration with each client. Combined with timeless style and natural grace, these allow her to capture the human spirit behind every project and the clientele benefiting from her designs.
With a B.S. in Interior Design and an M.A. in Design Management, Barrido is the co-founder and executive director of The Center for Interior Design Executive Resources, providing design research, design strategy, analysis and consulting services. She holds professional membership in NEWH; professional membership in ASID, in addition to, among other appointments, serving as the President of the ASID Los Angeles Chapter, Chair of the CST Representative to the National Board and as an At-Large National Board member; has served as a qualified juror for NCIDQ Certification; and is an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Interior Architecture at the prestigious prestigious Domus Academy School of Design at the New School of Architecture. She is a NCIDQ certified interior designer, Certified Interior Designer in California and a Licensed Interior Designer in the state of Florida. In July 2017, Sybil was inducted into the ASID College of Fellows and appointed to serve as a CIDQ Ambassador.
Barrido’s work has been featured in numerous books and publications including "Interior Design in Practice: Case Studies of Successful Business Models” by Terri L. Maurer and Katie Weeks. The in-house designer for eleven years at the Hotel Bel-Air in Beverly Hills, Barrido has extensive experience managing large site design. Her custom-designed furnishings grace the vast expanse of space while maintaining a feeling of intimacy and wellness. Internationally, her work is enjoyed in both residences and public spaces in Saudi Arabia, Manila, Philippines and Brunei where she was honored to work for the Royal Family.
Though she has appreciated professional success, Barrido feels her most important work has been participating in the design community, both as mentor and leader. As design leader, she has demonstrated a dedication to the future with holistic educational programs for young designers. Further, she stays involved locally by serving on advisement program committees which guide interior design programs. Throughout her projects she incorporates sustainability, a gifted knowledge of color, balance and texture which positively influence “built” environments in which young and old can flourish. Her work in the hospitality, healthcare and senior living industries has greatly improved the quality of life for those surrounded by it. Her philosophy, “we celebrate design and its impact to daily living,” is exemplified in each and every one of her projects.
“Sybil is dynamic and a tenacious industry design leader. I've worked with Sybil over 20 years and she is an outstanding individual with boundless creative ideas and energy. I appreciate how she tackles all projects with joy and enthusiasm to deliver the best.”
Sybil has an intuitive sense of style. We relied on her to redesign unique rooms at Hotel Bel-Air and I truly realized her value when we attempted to refurbish one room without her input due to time constraints. The finished product did not come close to her work.
I endorse SJvD Design wholeheartedly. Sybil understands her clients and their individual needs.
Sybil and her team worked with me as an Interior Designer during upgrades to Hotel Bel Air's guestrooms and bathrooms over a period of 5 years. Her design skills and eye for detail were excellent. She was always coigniscent of budget challenges but still manged to find solutions and innovative suggestions to allow the "charm" of the Bel Air to be nurtured.
I am an architectural photographer and have worked with Sybil Barrido for a number of years as an independent contractor when she has commissioned me to photograph her interior design projects. I have always been amazed by the stunning quality of her work, which ranges over a broad spectrum of interior styles. Her professionalism and ingratiating personality have always made her a real pleasure to work with. I would strongly recommend Sybil for any design work or related employment without reservation
Sybil has the ability to think strategically and bring challenging issues to the table in a manner that encourages constructive conversation. Similarly when others bring issues to her, she is open to all sides in order to understand the issue. Plus she is great fun and full of energy.
The most important work we do is maintaining the continuous communication with our clients, whether developing a new brand concept, mapping out a collaborative design strategy or simply giving advice.
