SYBIL JANE BARRIDO

FASID, CID, IDEC, NCIDQ

Sybil Jane Barrido has established herself as an innovator in the design industry. For twenty years founder and principal designer at SJVD Design, Barrido specializes in Hospitality, Urban-reuse/Development, and Commercial/Residential projects. Sought after both nationally and internationally, Barrido’s design approach reflects extensive design management skills coupled with a sincere collaboration with each client. Combined with timeless style and natural grace, these allow her to capture the human spirit behind every project and the clientele benefiting from her designs.

Barrido earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Florida State University and a Master or Arts in Design Management from SCAD. Sybil is the co-founder and executive director of The Center for Interior Design Executive Resources, providing design research, design strategy, and consulting services for design build projects. She holds membership in IDEC and professional membership in ASID, serving as the President of the ASID Los Angeles Chapter, Chair of the CST, CST Representative to the ASID National Board, and as an At-Large National Board member. In 2015, ASID recognized her as a National Medalist. Her volunteer and educational involvement includes having served as a qualified juror for NCIDQ Certification; and served as an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Interior Architecture at the prestigious prestigious Domus Academy School of Design at the New School of Architecture. Currently, Professor Barrido serves as the Associate Chair of the SCAD Interior Design Program in Savannah. In 2020, she was appointed to serve as a CIDA site reviewer and in 2021 appointed to the NCIDQ IDFX & IDPX Item Writing/Review committee.

She is a NCIDQ certified interior designer, Certified Interior Designer in the state of California and a Registered Interior Designer in the state of Florida. In July 2017, Sybil was inducted into the ASID College of Fellows and appointed to serve as a CIDQ Ambassador. In 2021, Sybil received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Florida State University Department of Interior Architecture and Design.

Barrido’s work has been featured in numerous books and publications including “Interior Design in Practice: Case Studies of Successful Business Models” by Terri L. Maurer and Katie Weeks. The in-house designer for eleven years at the Hotel Bel-Air in Beverly Hills, Barrido has extensive experience managing large site design. Her custom-designed furnishings grace the vast expanse of space while maintaining a feeling of intimacy and wellness. Internationally, her work is enjoyed in both residences and public spaces in Saudi Arabia, Manila, Philippines and Brunei where she was honored to work for the Royal Family.

Sybil feels her most important work has been participating in the design community, both as mentor and leader. As a design leader, she has demonstrated a dedication to the future of the profession in sharing design thinking methods, and how each strategic move young designers make influences the roadmap to their success. Throughout her projects she incorporates sustainability, a gifted knowledge of color, balance and texture which positively influence “built” environments in which young and old can flourish. Her work in the hospitality, healthcare, urban re-use and senior living markets has greatly improved the quality of life and human experience in thoughtfully designed spaces.

Her philosophy, “we celebrate design and its impact to daily living,” is exemplified in each and every one of her projects.
